Asbestos Identification & Quantification

Asbestos Fibres

The term 'asbestos' is used to describe a group of minerals that have crystallised to form long thin fibres and fibrous bundles. There are three commonly found types of asbestos:

  • - Blue asbestos (crocidolite)
  • - Brown asbestos (amosite)
  • - White asbestos (chrysotile)

Due to its ability to resist high temperatures, conserve thermal energy and protect against corrosion, asbestos was once used extensively in buildings and construction work. Nowadays, however, it is widely accepted that asbestos is a hazardous material. If asbestos fibres become airborne and are inhaled, they have the potential to do serious damage.

We provide for the identification and analysis to UKAS accreditation of the three most common types of asbestos fibre that listed above. We can also analyse for three less widely used forms: Anthophyllite, Tremolite, Actinolite. To download our method summary, follow the link here: NLS Asbestos Method.
